Hi,it’s hard work giving a deep massage isn’t it? And of course it’s going to burn calories, you are walking and using your arms in almost the reverse way of weight lifting, even kissing burns calories!
I found this on a forum for you: http://www.healthypages.net/forum/tm.asp?m=372881
It is an answer to someone asking the same question. It’s answered by someone who wore a heart rate monitor during work (last but one answer). He is a big guy, so you would use less, but in a day it looks like it’s pretty good going!
I also found this calory burning calculator: http://www.self.com/health/activity/calculators/elliptical_trainer
I don’t know how accurate it is though. But, you select the activity (it includes an option for giving a massage), the page refreshes and you then input your height and number of minutes you worked, then hit calculate, and it will tell you
Hope that helps!

Hi,
I’ve been a Massage Therapist for 8 years. This is a very common question. First, it depends what type of Massage you are doing. A sports massage or better yet, a russion sports massage burns a lot more calories that a swedish massage. As physical and strenuous as Massage is, it isn’t the same as exercize(in particular cardio) because your heart rate isn’t up high enough as it would be in aerobic excercize like running or biking(or even lifting weight), but it defenitely is good to build muscle tone and target every muscle in your body

I would estimate that you would burn about 200-300 calories depending on your size. It’s about the same as a brisk walk.

Everyone’s metabolic rate is different. You can find some calorie burn calcs online that can probably tell you better.

It is hard work, so I would assume you burn a decent amount of calories. However, everyone is different so even if that massage does burn 200 calories (just an example) it will affect everyone in different ways. Either way, it’s a great workout while you’re getting paid (hopefully).

Sometimes I wonder just how accurate or relevant the calorie burning guides are. Like I work out hard for 20 minutes on a bicycle machine at the gym and see I’ve burnt up only half a glass of orange juice. For me as a masseuse it seems to be more important that one is keeping ones own muscles toned – and toned muscles burn up calories whilst you sleep. It’s certainly a profession that keeps you fit and on your feet. Much healthier then sitting at a desk!

It depends on your metabolic rate. Much better to do some healthy fitting techniques in order to burn fats and calories as well.
